Jefferson, NC

There is so much to do and so much to see in Jefferson, North Carolina. We started out our weekend vacation riding 3 hours in the rain, ending up at a friend's cabin here in Jefferson. It's a 4 day weekend due to the Fourth of July landing on a Tuesday. We crammed every possible thing we could find to do into these wonderful, relaxing four days.

"Canoe The New"

Well, we didn't all really use a canoe, but we did use kayaks and floats! We took a 5 1/2 hour trip, relaxing down The New river. We only had three incidents with "flip overs" (2 Canoe flips and a Float flip). There were plenty of moments where I thought my kayak would flip but fortunately, it never did. We woke up early and took off packing snacks, drinks, sunscreen and Snickers. We lost most our snacks in the river when the canoes flipped but the drinks stayed with us, even after the Yeti ended up in the water. Snickers rode in the kayak with me and enjoyed most the trip. This is something I would HIGHLY recommend doing!

Snickers Kayaking with me

*Dont forget to stop by the New River State Park Visitor Center to learn about the animals you may see along with interactive flood maps and an amazing 3D map of the surrounding mountains!

Antique Shopping in West Jefferson

It is a MUST to stop by the Antique Stores in West Jefferson. The things you find will amaze you! There is always something new to find. With multiple stores to choose from, it easy to spend hours shopping from store to store. Don't forget to stop by my personal favorite, the Antique Mall. There's plenty to see and buy in the building. It is a huge store with LOTS of goodies. I ended up walking out with an old Tootsie Toy Mustang. When you shop, don't forget to take a moment to ride the carriage and take in the history of the town!

Kathy's Kuoboard There's a stair way hidden beside "Love for the Mountains Store" that will lead you to an extraordinary "real vintage and antique" store. It's a must visit! From Dresses to Bottles, if it's old and it's real, you may just find it here! It's an antique collector's paradise!

Boondocks Brewery

If you're looking for go food, you have to stop here. I ordered the Roast Beef with a Side Salad, Vegetables, and Mashed Potatoes. It is a little on the pricey side but it's worth it. The service was good and the food was better.

Jefferson Cheese Factory

This is an amazing opportunity to see how cheese is made along with purchasing the best cheese hands down! Go ahead, splurge on some fudge, ice cream, candy, and cheese! If you don't leave out of there with at least one bag of Curds, you're missing out!

Cascades Trail - Blue Ridge Parkway

Besides the joy of Riding along the Blue Ridge Parkway, a great stop would be at the Cascade Trail. It's a 30 minute walk (round trip) and it's worth every step. The waterfall is amazing! Falls Creek cascades down the Blue Ridge, joining the Yadkin, then into the PeeDee with a finish at Winyah Bay, SC into the ocean.

You must visit Boone, NC!

Something Else - Boone, NC

For a step out of the ordinary, stop here at this Something Else gift shop, that really is "Something Else." From modern Jewelry to vintage Scales, they have something to please any taste. It has a taste of Modern Vintage to it. It's a must visit store with plenty to see and buy!

Shoppes at Farmers - Boone, NC

While visiting Boone, you have to stop by this 3 Story shop! It'll take you a moment to get to the end but it's definitely worth seeing. From the volt that has been converted into a mini store, to the beautiful Rocks, you can find just about anything for any occasion in this All-In-One Store.

We ended up purchasing a couple of things from here! It was amazing!

Ransom Cafe & Pub

When your feet get tired and you need a "pick me up" so that you can continue to "shop till you drop," grab a wonderful Latte from Ransom. You definitely won't be disappointed! Even a non-coffee drinker like my friend enjoyed the wonderful taste of the warm (sweetened) Latte.

So take you're time and breathe in the crisp Mountain air! Enjoy antique shopping and visiting the locals! If you have any more suggestions, please let me know! I'd love to visit again, sooner then later!
